ABOUT EAST BLAM!
Over Shoreditch? Dumping Dalston? Migrating further East? So are we... Follow the documention of our exploration of E6 and the outer east edge here!
East Ham is surrounded by ‘Forest Great’, ‘Awesome-stow’, Wanstead village and Mile End Old Town. Lots of Newham areas that have upped and come so we were pretty surprised not to find some local peeps waxing lyrical about East Ham and Upton Park…
Enter East BLAM! (yeah, we went there!). Since no one is doing it yet, we will be documenting our exploration of E6 and ‘The Outer East Edge’ here. We hope you enjoy the read.

Hackney has been like that for decades in fairness. You had millionaire Jews in massive houses literally over the road from sink estates full of crackheads well before the beard clay gang turned up.
A lot of inner south London is similar.

False I'm afraid.
East Ham definitely borders Forest Gate.
Katherine Road goes from E7 to E6 as soon as you cross Plashet Grove.

People talk about Islington and Hackney as being massively middle class.
Parts are, yes, but significant parts of each are still places you wouldn't walk through at any point during the day.

Next to an excellent cheap indian restaurant, raving about East Ham Market while never going to Queens. with its worlds worth of food, cuisine and clothing. To occupied with sneering at the terminally unhip limping along behind them to see what they've got under their own noses

All totally incorrect. East BLAM is surrounded by plaistow, Beckton, barking and manor Park, which are all shit.

Mind you there were a few when I got the train home from Liverpool St last night, they looked gutted & mostly mongy.

IMHO Hipster = Middle class from the home counties or up north.
They like to re-label and re-package everyday stuff and pretend they thought of it and charge double.......
2nd hand clothes shops = Vintage.
Markets = Flea market
Food stall = Street food
Home made bread = Artisan
Real Ale = Craft Beer
Carrots or any veg not bought from a supermarket or in a plastic bag = Heritage.
Any nice area within a shitty area = Villiage
Row of Old terraced house in shitty area = New opportunity for these bearded pioneers to explore.
They spend their entire lives talking about how their area "only needs a little boutique or Café to open up now" or where they are moving to next. Sitting in Hipster pubs and cafes or wandering round tiny shit "Flea markets" that contain 3 "vintage" clothes stalls / shops, a record stall, an antiques stall and a couple of "Street Food stalls" dressed like a cross between Mumford and Sons and a lumberjack being cool and talking about how cool everything is.
Absolute wankers the lot of em!

I've got a beard. I love quality craft ale, and I'm hip as fuck, but I'm no hipster.
This issue is not at all clear.
With regards to the thread, the locals in East Ham could make a fortune giving tabla lessons, cookery classes and advising on how to tie a lungi, in years to come.

I live in Walthamstow, I'm originally from E17 but have lived in N London for the last 20 years as going out, pubs, restaurants, bars etc. were all better imo.
But Walthamstow has now caught up & even betters the social offerings offered in places in places I lived in previously, Stroud Green, Crouch Hill for instance.
There is a small hipster element but its more middle class couples & families moving in, I'm no class snob but it is odd hearing some of the plumy accents around, crazy to think that E17 has changed so much.
